Melbourne based artist Patricia Piccinini is known for producing art that provokes and at times disturbs, with her hyper realistic designs and sculptures. Her work came to prominence in Australia in the late 1990s and has gained a huge following ever since. In 2003 she was selected to represent Australia at the Venice Biennale.

In 2008, she commissioned M.E.G. to fabricate some of her concepts in sculpture form, as they had extensive experience with creating hyper realistic silicone pieces for the various film projects they had worked on.

The first piece they created was “The Long Awaited”, and was fabricated out of silicone, fibreglass and hair. This was soon followed by “Foundling”, the girl from the piece “Balasana”, and lastly “Doubting Thomas”. M.E.G created all the sculptures, moulds, silicone copies and realistic paint schemes for all these pieces, from concept art supplied by Piccinini.
